Hey there! Thanks for joining me, my name is Emily!

I would like to respectfully acknowledge that this region of Ontario lies within the ancestral homeland of many Indigenous Nations. In particular, I would like to recognize the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples, on whose land I live, work, and play.

I am a proud Newfoundlander living in Ontario with my fiancé, Matt, and our two dogs, Marlow and Maisy. Currently, I teach grade 1 within a school with a diverse demographic. The students in my classroom represent different languages, abilities, cultures, and ethnicities. I am constantly inspired by their unique perspectives and backgrounds. I truly believe that there is incredible strength in our differences, and these differences should be embraced as powerful tools in the educational process. My goal as an educator is to help shape a generation of learners who are not only academically proficient but also compassionate, understanding, and empathetic.

My journey to a Master’s in Special Education has been shaped by my deep passion for ensuring success for all individuals, recognizing that success can look different for each person. I’ve always been driven by problem-solving and finding what works for each student while addressing what doesn’t. I’ve been particularly inspired by people who have been told they can’t achieve because of their disability, trauma, or life circumstances. This has only strengthened my belief in strength-based learning, where every individual has the potential to succeed when provided with the right support, resources, and dedicated personnel. This passion has guided my path toward understanding how to create environments where all students can thrive.
